Every November 14th is World Diabetes Day. What do you want to know about diabetes? Recently, Xu Lingling, deputy director of the Department of Endocrinology, Southern Hospital of Southern Medical University, made a reply to 39 Health Network "Medical Doctor Online". Xiaobian compiled a representative question for sharing and hoped to help everyone's understanding of diabetes!
Patient question: fasting blood glucose 7.6, fasting blood glucose 7.7... Am I suffering from diabetes?
Director Xu Lingling: If you accidentally find an abnormal fasting blood glucose, it is recommended to conduct a glucose tolerance test to further confirm the diagnosis. If the patient has clear symptoms, such as polydipsia, polyphagia, polyuria, weight loss, and a combination of fasting blood glucose greater than 7 times, diabetes can be diagnosed; but not all diabetic patients have these symptoms, and some people have no symptoms. At the time of the physical examination, it was found that if there were no symptoms, it was necessary to have two fasting blood glucose levels above 7 or postprandial blood glucose greater than 11.1.
Patient question: How high is the fasting blood glucose?
Director Xu Lingling: Just looking at the fasting blood glucose index is not able to judge whether diabetes is serious. In terms of blood sugar, it is necessary to monitor the fasting and two hours of postprandial blood glucose and check glycosylated hemoglobin to determine the overall control of blood sugar.
Patient Question: Do you have to take medicine for diabetes? Is insulindependent? Can it be adjusted by exercise diet alone?
Director Xu Lingling: If you need to take medicine to diagnose diabetes, if you are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, you must use insulin. Insulin is only a drug, and there is no dependence. Whether long-term medication is needed depends on the condition.
If blood sugar is improved by controlling diet, but it does not reach normal levels, it is recommended to take diabetes drugs, which can be small; if blood sugar is not controlled, it is necessary to start hypoglycemic drugs immediately.
In addition, diabetes is not only to control the blood sugar, but also to monitor the complications, including cerebrovascular, cardiovascular, lower extremity blood vessels, fundus, kidney and nerves, to initiate the corresponding treatment.
Patient Question: Can sweet potatoes be eaten? Can tomatoes be eaten? Can seafood eat? ...... Can you eat?
Director Xu Lingling: In the diet of diabetes, we should mainly grasp the general principle: Do not eat too sweet, too greasy food, mainly the amount of control, not the specific type.
Patient problem: Diabetes has a small ulcer on the toes. Is it a diabetic foot ?
Director Xu Lingling: There are suspected symptoms of diabetic foot. It is recommended to be admitted to the hospital for blood vessel and neuropathy as soon as possible to assess the presence or absence of obstruction of the lower extremity blood vessels. The blood circulation of the lower limbs of diabetic patients is generally poor, so small wounds may not heal or even ulcerate for a long time, and severe amputation is required. Therefore, it is necessary to comprehensively manage blood sugar, blood pressure, blood lipids, wounds or pain in the lower limbs or feet. Must be admitted to hospital in time.
Patient Question: Is diabetes inherited?
Director Xu Lingling: The most common type 2 diabetes is genetically predisposed, but not absolute. Therefore, if parents have diabetes, they need to teach their children about diet and exercise at an early stage. For example, try to eat sweets and fry as little as possible. Food, exercise, and weight control, so that the chances of developing diabetes in the future will be reduced.
Patient problem: I am suffering from type 2 diabetes when I am young. Is it not long before I can live?
Director Xu Lingling: Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease. If blood sugar can be controlled well, complications are monitored regularly, complications are treated promptly, and there is no particular difference in life expectancy.
